Video-eo Nasties!

The Video nasties are considered to be tacky and gory horror films produced in the late 70s and early 80s and released straight to video since they would probably have been banned by the BBFC. At that time video recordings did not need to hold a certificate. This was flaunted in the face of many video consumers with the lurid covers vividly displaying depraved acts of violence. This spurned a campaign by many against the said video nasties (often members of the upper class with nothing better to do). This campaign was lead by high profile housewife and battleaxe Mary Whitehouse. Of course the lovely Mary Whitehouse did not watch any of the video nasties, she was far to media savvy for that and instead relied upon her high level of omniscience to condemn them as utter filth.
A list was drawn up that deemed around 80 videos to be far too violent and demoralisingto all those poor people who watched them, assuming they were half as passive as this independant commision made out. These videos of course became compulsory viewing for any true horror fan once the details of the list were published.
